THE LAUNCH PAD FOR LIVE ARTS EXCHANGE (LAX)
Over 60 artists involved in all-local 3-week-long event. Opening Night Performance Event Curated by Nicole Disson
LOS ANGELES, CA- LiveArts Exchange (LAX), a new contemporary performance series featuring all-local artists in theater, dance, music, and cross-genre performance will launch in two weeks with a performance/party curated by Nicole Disson, producer of THE SERIES, a multi-disciplinary production and event previously set on the rooftop of The Standard, Downtown LA.
LAUNCH PAD, Disson’s themed event, will take place on Thursday, September 19, 2013 and will merge social happening with performing arts at the Bootleg Theater .
EARLY MORNING OPERA production of ABACUS by Lars Jan Over seventy local artists are involved with LAX, from intermingling communities in contemporary dance, theater, experimental animation and even punk opera. LAUNCH PAD alone will feature well over fifty of these artists as the point of departure for the rest of the festival.
The singular event will premiere new contemporary dance pieces from choreographer Kitty McNamee of Hysterica Dance Co. and feature new works by choreographer Mecca Vazie Andrews and The MOVEMENT Movement. There will be live musical performances by indie-pop songstress Coco Morier, Jesse Nolan, Tessa Thompson and members of their band Caught a Ghost and rapper VERBS.

An array of performance art and installations will take shape throughout the theater, including pieces by internationally renowned installation, environmental artist, painter and sculptor Lita Albuquerque, performance artist D’Arcy F-M, poet Jacqueline Suskin of POEM STORE, musician/artist Daiana Feuer and actresses Tanya Fischer and Vivian Bang. Writer Mandy Kahn (CollageCulture) will be partnering with composer Daniel Corral to score her poetry to Corral’s original classical composition and works by filmmaker MarianaBlanco and photographer Austin Irving will be projected throughout the evening, with DJ sets by Pharaohs and Jung Hollywood.
Nicole Disson is a producer, performer and curator who relishes bringing people together to create and celebrate the arts. After relocating to the west coast in 2006, Nicole began producing and curating special theatrical productions and events, while continuing to perform as an actor, singer and dancer. With a heavy theatre background and professional experience in brand and entertainment marketing, Disson is recognized for her crossover work as a producer and performer and ability to cultivate talent, while fusing this energy into unique settings and situations.
Los Angeles Performance Practice is a producing organization and artists’ network dedicated to supporting Los Angeles’ unique contemporary performance community. Formed by producer Miranda Wright in 2010, it is comprised of independent artists who create groundbreaking theatrical experiences through innovative approaches to collaboration, technology, and social engagement. Artists within the LAPP network include Cloud Eye Control, Early Morning Opera, Janie Geiser, Miwa Matreyek, Pablo N. Molina, Zoe Aja Moore, Annie Saunders, Susan Simpson, and Chi-wang Yang.
